What you will find here
I tell long stories in short daily parts, the way diaries are written: one day at a time. Right now I am retelling the diary of Cora Hale, a young woman who boarded an emigrant train alone in 1873 and followed a homestead dream to a Nebraska prairie town called Larkspur. Her story begins with The Notice in the Window.
Before Cora, readers here spent quiet mornings on Alder Bay and in the little lakeside town of Cedar Hollow. Those chapters are still on the shelf, waiting whenever you want them.
A word about the stories
The people and places in these pages are drawn from imagination, shaped with care by the true textures of American history: the trains, the land offices, the farm kitchens, the long winters. If a chapter feels like something your grandmother might have told you across the table, then I have done my job.
About me
I grew up on stories told over coffee, and I never lost the taste for them. I write for readers who like their stories warm, unhurried, and honest about both hardship and kindness. New chapters arrive every day, usually with the first cup of the morning.
